Who is holding the seats this year, and what each one is on the hook for.
Our voting closed on 7/31/26. Five members ran for five seats, and all five were elected.
An uncontested race is still worth running. Members scored every candidate through STAR Voting, which means the outcome is a record of what the membership actually thinks (at least those who voted), not a formality that happened to five people who filled out a form.
The Board
Connor Doherty,
President. Board meetings, external representation, and the software and systems side of operations.
Connor is in the shop on a regular basis, jumping in to help people get unstuck on their projects despite his crazy schedule. He built the systems that support our growing membership, and he keeps improving them, which is most of what keeps us out of the stone ages.
Eric Spehr,
Treasurer. Accounts, dues, filings, and the budget everything else runs on.
Eric pays the bills, then builds stuff for the shop. Technical infrastructure, the woodworking area, whatever is next on the list. His gaming prowess knows no bounds. He remains the shop's most reliable source of snacks.
Hunter Wright,
Secretary. Minutes, records, and member communications.
Resident MD, and also the person keeping the dust collection running. Hunter works across electrical, fume exhaust, and equipment repairs, and he is one of the most active leads in the metal shop. A lot of what you use here without thinking about it works because he keeps it working.
Greg Thibodeaux,
Director of Marketing and Outreach. Website, public communications, social, press, and fundraising events.
Greg came to 10BitWorks to learn CNC and stayed to teach it. If you learned about the shop online, his fingerprints are on it. You are reading them right now. He spearheaded last year's fundraising event and gave the shop its current branding.
A new seat, and the member filling it
Chief Development Officer is a new role. It exists because the shop has outgrown the version of fundraising that happens in the margins of everyone else's job. Growing membership, a bigger equipment list, and the space we need next all cost money, and somebody has to be responsible for where that money comes from.
Steve is that somebody, and his path here is the one we describe on every page of this website, except he actually walked it.
Steve Brown,
VP and Chief Development Officer. Revenue strategy, individual and corporate donor relationships, capital campaigns, and organizational growth.
Steve led our shop-floor reorganization last year and built out our tool organization systems. He runs a growing business and designed and launched a product out of this space. He brings two decades of managing complex projects and cross-functional teams, which is most of what a volunteer board does when it is working well.
Ken Runner steps down
Ken is leaving the board after serving as our Co-Secretary.
He also put together a lot of our electrical infrastructure at LaChapelle. He ran it, tested it, and came back to fix what needed fixing, for years. That work does not photograph well and nobody posts about it, and every single member has depended on it every day they have been here. He is stepping off the board, not out of the shop. Thank you, Ken!
The year ahead
Our board currently meets twice a month, sometimes more, and that pace is not going to slow down as a lot of exciting things are in the works. Membership is growing. Our capacity needs to grow with it. The The Big Give runs September 23 and 24, and it funds real things for our members.
How to plug in
Board meetings are open to members. Find out meeting dates on the calendar. Agendas go out in Slack. If you have something you want the board to take up, bring it to any of us, in the shop or in a channel. That is how most of what happens here starts.
