Refunds 01
The fine print
DUES 02
10BitWorks is a member-supported nonprofit. Dues go straight to the bills: rent, utilities, equipment maintenance, and the consumables the shop runs through. No owners taking a cut. No staff drawing salaries. The money members put in is what keeps the doors open for everyone else.
Membership isn't a product or service in the commercial sense. What you're paying for is access to the facility and to the community. If you had that access during a given period, whether you came in every day or not at all, you received the benefit. Access isn't something that can be returned.
REFUNDS 03
We made a mistake:
Billing errors, double charges, and miscommunications are on us. We'll reverse them without argument.
Our systems failed:
We rely on external platforms outside our direct control. When those go down or behave unpredictably, you shouldn't bear the cost of a problem you didn't create. We chose those systems, and we'll cover the consequences.
Those are the two situations where a refund makes sense. Reach out and we'll take care of it.
LIMITS 04
If access was available and the issue is on your end, we can't offer a refund. That includes:
1. Signing up before touring the space
2. Missing communications sent through our published channels
3. Not tracking your own billing
4. Expectations that didn't match what we've documented
We make what membership is very clear before you join. Open Houses run regularly. The documentation is here to read. If something still came as a surprise, talk to us.
CANCELLATIONS 05
Canceling your recurring payment stops future charges. It doesn't shorten the current period.
If your payment processed today and you cancel today, your access runs through the end of the billing period. This is true on your first payment, and it's true on any payment after that. The access system requires predictable billing state to function reliably, and prorated refunds aren't something we can offer.
Membership is a monthly commitment, not a subscription you can exit mid-cycle. Before you sign up, make sure you're comfortable with that. Come to an Open House. Walk the floor. Talk to members. We'd rather you join knowing what you're getting into.
PROCESSING 06
When a card refund goes through, the payment processor returns the full charge minus their original transaction fees. The refund transaction itself also carries processing fees. We cover those. What comes back to you is the full original amount, less whatever the processor kept on the initial charge.
