10BitWorks Is Moving

August 27, 2026

After just shy of a decade on LaChapelle, we signed a lease on a new space.

The new address is 8610 Botts Ln, San Antonio, TX 78217. The tools, the people, and the way the place runs are all coming with us. The building is the part that's changing, and changing for the better.

Move-out is October 1, 2026.

What the new space makes possible

The new building doesn't just give us more room. It gives us room to do things we've been working around for years:

  • Dedicated studio spaces with personal working and storage areas, available as membership add-ons (members are already reserving spots)
  • A proper woodworking enclosure, separated from the rest of the shop
  • Dust collection assembled for the new layout
  • Fume and heat extraction for metalworking and ceramics
  • Updated building access and security systems

What the move costs

Here's where the money goes.

Getting out of LaChapelle

  • Box truck, one week: $850
  • Cleanup and dumpster: $800

At Botts Lane

  • Forklift (unloading and positioning heavy equipment): $400
  • Dust collection setup: $500 (system purchased earlier this year; this covers materials for the new layout)
  • Studio space partitions, 6 spaces: $600
  • Woodworking wall (two 40-foot, 10-foot-high walls, OSB both sides): $1,900
  • Storage and cabinetry: $250
  • Ceiling tiles: $550
  • Tech infrastructure: $250
  • Fume extraction for metalworking and ceramics: TBD

Budgeted so far: $6,100. Fume extraction is still being estimated.

New equipment

The new space gives us, for the first time, the infrastructure to run a high-capacity laser welder/engraver. That's been on the list for years. Botts Lane is where it becomes possible. Depending on the model: $8,000 to $12,000.

Total known: $14,100 to $18,100, not counting fume extraction.

How to help: volunteer

Between now and October 1, we need hands at LaChapelle for packing, sorting, cleaning, and getting the space ready to hand back. We also need many hands at Botts Lane for setup and buildout.

We're building a volunteer list to coordinate shifts and make sure the work gets done without anyone carrying it alone. If you've got a few hours, sign up.

How to help: give

10BitWorks is in Big Give SA this year, September 23-24. Six 60-second Match Minute windows activate during the event, where every dollar donated is matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $100. The matching pools drain in seconds, but if you're ready at the right moment, your $100 does $200 worth of work.

Pledge now, give on Big Give day. If you're planning to give $100 or less, pledge on our site and we'll coordinate which Match Minute window to target. We'll send you the schedule, a calendar reminder, and step-by-step instructions before September 23. The more pledgers we spread across the six windows, the more gifts get matched.

Six times during Big Give, a 60-second window opens when every dollar donated to 10BitWorks is matched dollar-for-dollar. Community sponsors fund pools of matching money that activate at specific minutes during the two-day event. Any online gift up to $100 that processes during one of those windows is matched until the pool runs out.

The cap per gift is $100. The pools drain in seconds. Precision matters more than the size of the gift.

Have the page open two minutes before. Card ready. Amount entered. Finger on the button.

Submit on the minute. The matching pools drain in seconds. 6:13 PM means 6:13, not 6:14.

Not planning around a Match Minute? That’s fine. A donation sent today is better than one you’re still planning to time on September 24. Every dollar goes to work regardless of when it arrives.

A note on the site

A few things are still in progress. The membership sign-up flow and contact forms will be ready before the full public launch. We'll be adding photos of the new space and member work over the coming weeks.

Feedback welcome: drop a note in #website-feedback on Slack or reach out at gthibodeaux@10bitworks.org.

What's next

We'll share updates as the buildout progresses. The full Match Minute schedule and playbook goes out in September.

For now: pledge, volunteer, spread the word.

Questions? gthibodeaux@10bitworks.org.

Let's build this new chapter together.
