We’re In. Mostly.

The move-in to our new location was completed October 1, and we've been open to members at 8610 Botts Ln ever since.

Open and finished are different things, and we're only claiming one of them.

Getting in

Door access control is still being installed. We expect it to be finished by Sunday (10/18.)

Until then, the easiest way in is during open hours:

  • Wednesday: 9am to 1pm
  • Thursday: 9am to 1pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 1pm
  • Sunday: 9am to 1pm

Members can come in outside those hours. Check in the general channel on Slack first to confirm someone is at the building to let you in. Cleaning, building, and organizing volunteers get first call on access.

Not a member yet? Visitors and tours follow the same hours, or by appointment.

Where things stand

Most areas are ready to use. A few things are mid-build, and a few machines are waiting on infrastructure before they can run at full capacity. We'd rather tell you that here than have you find out at the bench.

Open now: 3D printing. Woodworking, including CNC. Ceramics, with the new fume and heat extraction installed and working. Electronics. Textiles. The metal shop, with welding limited (see below).

Still being finished: The walls enclosing the wood shop are about 75% done and stalled for lack of hands. Studio spaces are still in planning, held up until our organizing effort wraps.

Waiting on infrastructure

  • Welding: we don’t have heat and fume extraction for metalworking yet, so welding access is very limited and permission-based. Ask in the welding channel on Slack before you plan a job.
  • Laser engravers: the exhaust system is scheduled to go in this coming week.
  • Dust collection: running on our older standard systems for now. The new industrial-grade system is a bigger project and likely won’t be done until next quarter.

Questions about anything else? The general channel on Slack is the place to ask.

What the new building adds

  • Dedicated studio spaces with personal working and storage areas, available as membership add-ons. Still in planning. Interested? Use the contact form.
  • A proper woodworking enclosure, separated from the rest of the shop. Walls about 75% up.
  • Fume and heat extraction for ceramics, installed and working. Metalworking extraction is still to come.
  • Industrial-grade dust collection, likely next quarter.
  • Updated building access and security, finishing by Sunday.

Thank you

Boxes got packed, heavy equipment got moved, and walls went up because members showed up.

And to everyone who gave during Big Give, the full story is in Thirteen Past the Hour.

How to help right now

The build-out is still running every day, and there's need for more hands and dollars.

Volunteer

Give

We got the tools moved and the doors open, but stretched the budget further than we should have along the way. Now we need help covering the gap between moving expenses and the everyday costs of running the shop. If you’ve got a little room in your budget, a donation would help put some back in ours.

Tell us what you notice

Something broken, missing, or in the wrong place? Say so in the general channel on Slack. We'd rather hear it on day two than month two.

Come and see it

Tours are the best way to see where things stand.

Where to follow along

Updates will land on the blog, Facebook, and Instagram as areas come online.
