10BitWorks has no paid staff and makes no profit. Volunteers maintain the shop in their spare time, on a best-effort basis. We have plenty of tools, equipment, and supplies, but we can't guarantee any one of them is available or working on a given day. That includes a machine that ran fine last week, a supply that was here yesterday, or a tool you saw on our website. Unless you fix it yourself (thank you), we can't promise when it will be back. Membership isn't a product you buy. Community and access to the facility are the only guaranteed benefits, and we can't refund dues when anything else falls short.

Following our Code of Conduct and paying dues are the only requirements to stay a member. Coming in, joining in, and making things are all up to you. Plenty of members pay dues through long stretches without visiting, and that's part of why our dues stay below the national average. Some members never use the space at all and join to support it (thank you). Either way, your dues keep the shop open and available to you. Only sign up if you can afford the recurring payment. We can't refund dues because you didn't visit, forgot to cancel, or for any other reason.

Dues are charged automatically each month to the payment method you choose. To cancel, contact us. Use an email address you actually check, because payment problems are sent there. Each charge commits you to another full month. If you cancel partway through a month, your access continues until that month ends, plenty of time to clear out a locker.

As soon as you sign up, you can use the shop and most of its equipment while other members are there, including during open hours. Members 18 and over can also get an access card for entry any time. To get one, come by during open hours for onboarding. A member goes over safety, how to secure the building, and the Member Rules, then makes your card. Tours and onboarding need no appointment; onboarding needs an active membership. If your membership lapses for non-payment, your card stops working, so keep an eye on your email.

Slack is where the shop talks: project help, casual chat, and the things you need to know right away, like closures, equipment downtime, safety hazards, elections, events, lost and found, and volunteer calls. Install the Slack app on your phone so other members, including the board, can reach you when it matters. Your invite link is in your welcome email. You choose which channels notify you, and Quiet Hours keep it from turning into group-chat noise.

Power tools carry real risk. Read the waiver in full before you agree. It's also on our website any time: Liability Waiver.

ASSUMPTION OF RISK: I acknowledge that inherent risks, dangers and hazards and such exist when using power tools commonly used in electronics construction, fabrication, software design and other technology related activities. Participation in such activities and/or the use of equipment associated with technology design, manufacture and experimentation may result in injury, illness, death or damage to personal property. These risks and dangers may be caused by other participants, members or by accidents, acts of nature or other causes. Risks and dangers may arise from foreseeable or unforeseeable causes including, but not limited to electrocution, burns, impalement, injury from slips or falls, etc. By participating, you acknowledge and accept these risks.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY: I release 10BitWorks Hackerspace, its members, officers, agents, board members, from action whatsoever arising out of any damage, loss or injury to the participant or the participant's property while upon the premises or using any equipment of the organization or while participating in any of the activities contemplated by this agreement whether such loss, damage, or injury results from the negligence of the corporation, its members, agents, or from some other cause.

COVENANT NOT TO SUE: I agree never to institute any suit or action at law otherwise against 10BitWorks Hackerspace, its members, officers, board members, agents, nor to initiate or any way assist the prosecution of any claim for damages or course of action which the member, member's heirs, executors or administrators hereafter may have by reason of injury to the person of the member or to the participant's property arising from the activities contemplated by this agreement.

THIRD PARTY INDEMNIFICATION: The member will indemnify, save and hold harmless 10BitWorks Hackerspace, its members, officers, board members, or agents from any and all losses, claims, actions, or proceedings of every kind and character which may be presented or initiated by any other persons or organizations and which arise directly or indirectly from the actions of the member while engaged in the activities contemplated by this agreement.

I hereby acknowledge that I have CAREFULLY read all of the provisions above, fully understand the terms and conditions expressed there, and do freely choose acceptance of the provisions of the foregoing paragraphs relating to assumption of risk, release of liability, covenant not to sue, and third party indemnification.
